Z-Ro and Slim Thug pair up once again to throw down for their hometown on “Summertime,” ostensibly an ode to Houston in 90-degree heat.

Any song called “Summertime” automatically does battle with the legions of “Summertimes” of years past; Z-Ro and Slim Thug’s “Summertime” ranks higher than Lana Del Rey’s “Summertime Sadness” and maybe “Summertime” by Sex Bob-Omb, the band from Scott Pilgrim vs. The World, but still below the classic “Summertime” of both Janis Joplin and DJ Jazzy Jeff/The Fresh Prince. It’s a crowded field, the “Summertime” song.

But Z-Ro’s smooth R&B vocals are spot-on, as is the duo’s checklist for the perfect summer: a pool party, steaks on the grill, a pocketful of money, and “fine dimes looking pretty.” Listen below. [Rap Radar]
