Still Corners: "Cuckoo"
If you want to talk about stars alligning or destiny taking its course then how great is the story of Still Corners coming together? Greg Hughes, songwriter and bandleader of the group, met vocalist Tessa Murray while getting off at a wrong stop on a London train after relocating from America. The chemistry must have been palpable from the get-go, because this new single, "Cuckoo," a teaser from the group's upcoming debut full-length via Sub Pop, is a midnight dream pop morsel that echoes the vocal dynamics of the Cocteau Twins and the steady mechanical drumming of Psychocandy-era Jesus and Mary Chain.
