Stephen Malkmus

Gardenia (Video)

Average Rating: 7.00

Many indie-rockers owe a sizable debt to former Pavement frontman Stephen Malkmus. And they’ve found a novel way to pay him back, by lip-synching and mock strumming in this clip for his Real Emotional Trash song “Gardenia.” The clip features some perfunctory animation, but most people will be playing spot-the-minor-celebrity as the Dan Woods-directed video plays out. Brian Bell of Weezer and Joe Plummer from Modest Mouse both appear (do you think Joe has been hitting back “Joe the Plumber” jibes in the past week or so?), as do Gregg Gillis of Girl Talk and Steve Turner from Seattle grunge legends Mudhoney. The clip is currently streaming exclusively on Pitchfork.tv.
