“I will go down as the voice of this generation, of this decade, I will be the loudest voice,” Kanye West said recently. Is there anything, or anyone, who can stop West’s rampant egomania? Perhaps the lower-than-expected sales of 808s & Heartbreak will dent his sizable confidence? Comedy Central host Stephen Colbert has decided to take matters into his own hands, by starting an “Operation Humble Kanye” campaign.
“Sir, you are not the voice of this generation,” Colbert says in this clip. “In fact, with all the auto-tuning on your records, you’re barely the voice of your own albums.” Colbert instructs West that he has to “get in line” if he wants to be the voice of a generation. “There is only one way to stop Kanye’s arrogance,” he says. “And that is with my arrogance.” Colbert is launching a campaign to knock 808s & Heartbreak from the top of the iTunes charts by encouraging people to buy his Christmas album, A Colbert Christmas, instead.
