“Stay Away” (Live In Dalston Heights) (Video)

The self-styled “dark pop” of Charli XCX generated plenty of column inches in 2011—and that’s only set to increase as we get deeper into this year. Her first release of 2012 is a live clip of her performing “Stay Away” live at the Blind Club in Dalston in London, where she delivers the song amid acres of unspooled tape reels. This still sounds like one of the best pop songs of the last 12 months, with Charli demonstrating her impressive voice and an undeniable knack for understated hooks. There’s a remarkable maturity at work here—Charli is just 19—and it will be fascinating to see what she can do with this collection of ideas over a full-length record. Check out the live version of “Stay Away” below. [via Disco Naivete]
