As he's done in the past, producer/DJ Statik Selektah has brought together some of hip-hop's best and brightest on his latest album, Population Control. The most notable collaboration comes on "Play the Game," a soulful joint that pairs up like-minded rappers Big K.R.I.T. and Freddie Gibbs. Sure, the latter might dabble more in the gangster-ish side of hip-hop, but he can get introspective and contemplative, too. And that's exactly what he does alongside K.R.I.T. here on "Play the Game," a straight-up solid boom-bap joint that comes with some fresh visuals. The video is split between live footage and moving photos of the rappers and producer in various locales. It's a bit jarring at first, if only because you think the video player is acting up.
