“State Hospital”

Earlier this summer, Scottish rockers Frightened Rabbit announced they would be following up 2010’s The Winter of Mixed Drinks with a new EP and a tour. The EP has a name now–State Hospital comes out September 25 on Atlantic.

The jump to a major label makes sense for these Scots, considering the kind of mainstream swagger the band possesses in spades. They’re planning another LP for early next year, but first the group debuted the EP’s title track on Zane Lowe’s BBC Radio 1 show. “State Hospital” is a rhythmically-complex barn-burner that explodes in its back half. There’s a radio rip below, but we’re betting it will sound even more amazing on the actual EP–or better yet, in a rousing live rendition.
