Britt Daniel brought his Spoon to Conan O’Brien’s show last night, in what will be one of the last musical performances on his show—and the host is apparently happy to waste the network’s money during his final days on air. Just check out the gleeful tone he takes when he uses a refrain from a Led Zeppelin song just before Spoon appears, saying how it “costs the network a lot of money.”
Daniel’s band has a new album out on Merge to promote, titled Transference, which is in stores now. “Written in Reverse” was released ahead of the record and is the song of choice for this performance. It’s the kind of plodding, tasteful, but unremarkable rock number that has made Spoon inexplicably popular, and there’s no indication in “Written in Reverse” to suggest that trend won’t continue with Transference.
