It was pretty quiet on the Spoon front for a long time after 2007's excellent Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga, but the band has been more active as of late. At the beginning of the year, there were some hints about new material being written, and then they dropped a surprise EP last month. Now if I were a betting man, I would say that these signs point to a new album being released in the not too distant future. To support my theory, here's a clip of the band premiering a new tune, "Is Love Forever?" during their three-day stint at Stubb's in their hometown of Austin. The song is pretty standard Spoon, all staccato guitars and minimal effects. It's anyone's guess whether this is a finished version or if they're just road-testing it, but either way, industrious camcorder-wielding Spoon fans should keep an eye out: they also played a couple other new ones, "I Saw The Light" and "Mystery Zone," that are just waiting to be recorded for Youtube posterity.
