The build up to Sonic Youth’s new album, The Eternal, which is due for release via Matador on June 9, has included a Buy Early Get Now campaign and a couple of limited edition singles for Record Store Day. The album was also previewed at this weekend’s Coachella Festival, and now the band has released a track, “Sacred Trickster,” as a teaser for the record.
“Sacred Trickster” features a screeching Kim Gordon vocal, which includes shout-outs to painter Yves Klein and noise rockers Noise Nomads. The musical backing is strident, discordant rock reminiscent of Lee Ranaldo’s “Hey Joni” from Daydream Nation. The track is over in a blink-and-you’ll-miss-it two minutes and ten seconds, but bodes extremely well for The Eternal.
Anyone tempted to buy the album ahead of its release date through the Buy Early campaign will obtain the following goodies:
- A code to stream the album early, from April 28
- An exclusive live vinyl lp recorded in New York on July 4, 2008 (subject to availability)
- An exclusive poster
- Exclusive additional mp3 downloads of outtakes & more live material
- Early access to concert tickets in the US
