“Sonic Armada”

The new album by Air, titled Le Voyage Dans La Lune (A Trip to the Moon), is almost upon us, and the band has issued the song “Sonic Armada” to preview the new recording. The record is a soundtrack for the 1902 silent film of the same name, which was directed by the legendary French filmmaker Georges Méliès. “Sonic Armada” is a jaunty instrumental full of twists of old analog synth sounds, somewhat reminiscent of the kind of experiments Jean-Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley were conducting back in the mid to late 1960s. This bodes well for the Air album—it sounds like the duo is in a playful mood, which fits perfectly with the feel of Méliès’s feature. Check out “Sonic Armada” below. [via OneThirtyBPM]
