Son Lux: "All The Right Things" (Prefix Premiere)

Just because Son Lux, aka Ryan Lott, completed We Are Rising in 28 days -- compared to the three years he spent on his debut, At War With Walls And Mazes -- doesn't mean it's a rush job. Actually, it's quite the opposite. The producer/composer is perhaps at his most accomplished and forthright on his sophomore album, which he completed as part of the RPM Challenge earlier this year. For one, the scant vocals heard on At War have been upgraded thanks to his reaching out to an array of guests, including Shara Worden, Jace Everett, Katie Chastain, and DM Stith. Lott also got a boost musically from the yMusic sextet, known for their work with the National and Sufjan Stevens.

As such, the spirit of collaboration can be heard throughout We Are Rising. This is especially true on tracks such as "All the Right Things," which Lott has wisely chosen as his latest single. It features the full-bodied vocals of Stith and Chastain, who complement the dreamy-turned-swelling nature of the track. The yMusic sextet then provides that extra punch once the vocals drop for just a second and you're suddenly smacked with vibrant brass and percussion. "All the Right Things" is wholly accessible, engaging, and lush while also remaining challenging enough in its composition to satisfy all you music nerds out there.
