“Sofia’s Song” (Stream)

The gaping sentimental indie-rock vaccuum created by Sufjan Stevens’s lack of a proper release since 2005’s Illinois has left a large number of us scrambling for any new/unreleased material from Stevens to fill the void. In that spirit, “Sophia’s Song” is exactly the kind of thing that slowly treads its way to the internet surface; it is an unreleased recording from the singer’s “name song” phase, recorded in college before he became a big deal. Also, it really humanizes performers when they do things as common as record songs where, to quote Sufjan, “Sofia Copola was my imaginary confidant.”
