Snoop Dogg: "Gangsta Luv" (Mayer Hawthorne G-Mix)
One of the more exciting cuts off of Snoop's recent addendum to last year's Malice 'n' Wonderland is Mayer Hawthorne's remix of "Gangsta Luv." Hawthorne leaves the song's basic structure intact, but replaces the original's dark synth textures with piano stabs, and drops The-Dream's falsetto for his own doo-wop harmonies. All that sounds good and well, but the real joy of this track is in the bass licks, pulled straight out of James Jamerson's book.
Apparently, Snoop was so pleased he paid Hawthorne back with a gift bag of goodies.
