It would only make sense that a dude known for ingesting massive amounts of marijuana would forget to release the second offering from his #puffpuffpasstuesday series. As such, the latest track from Snoop Dogg ended up on the web some time last night. Like the one before it, the so-so "El Lay," this leak is another preview of the rapper's forthcoming Doggumentary album.
And "Gangbang Rookie," unsurprisingly, is Snoop-by-the-numbers as he recalls his previous hits, big-ups the hell out of himself, and shows love to the ladies. There's nothing terribly new here, but most of it works pretty well. The thanks for that goes to Jake One's fantastic beat, which is full of horn stabs and layers of piano and organ. It almost all falls apart toward the end, though, when the newest members of the Dogg Pound Gang, Pilot, steps up. Did I hear him say he's 15? Eh, no wonder he sounds so bratty. And is he essentially supposed to be the West Coast/gangster version of Diggy Simmons, sans that sick double-time flow? Boring.
