Smashing Pumpkins: "Widow Wake My Mind"

Late last year Billy Corgan announced -- in between spouting various crazy nonsense -- that he would be releasing the latest Smashing Pumpkins album Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, a massive 44-song opus, one song at a time for download via the Smashing Pumpkins website.

Last month, listeners got "Song For a Son," which was OK. Now Corgan and company have released "Widow Wake My Mind," which appears to be the "rocker" of the two but like "Song" is a bit tepid and unconvincing, especially with that opening riff that skirts mall-punk territory. The chorus attempts to soa,r but the cold keys and guitar tones clip its wings, and again Corgan's voice sounds inexplicably high in the mix.

The song is streaming on the Smashing PumpkinsMySpace page but will be available for download on the official website tomorrow. At least Corgan hasn't brought Jessica Simpson on board to one of these songs yet, though it may only be a matter of time. [Pitchfork]

When I first saw the top of this photo as I was scrolling down, I thought this was a post about Natalie Portman, from the 'V for Vendetta' era.
