Small Black have been unfortunately categorized as a chillwave act, even though most of the material on their debut album, New Chain, is simple hazy pop music. In the video for standout track “Photojournalist,” director Yoonha Park has one actress try to recreate another’s movements as she goes about her day, and then layers the two on top of each other. It creates a dreamlike effect, especially when added with the tropical imagery and soft colors, and fits with the song’s call to “Rise up again like a ghost.” It may not be chillwave, but it’s still pretty blissful.
