“Slowdown” F. Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley, Gunplay & Young Breed

Maybe it’s the old school, breaks-centric beat. Or maybe it’s the fact that everyone on here is just straight spittin’, but the Torch-helmed Maybach Music Group posse cut, “Slowdown,” is pretty damn dope. Surprisingly, MMG bawse Rick Ross is nowhere to be found, but we still get to hear some solid rhymes from Meek Mill, Wale, Stalley, Young Breed, and Gunplay, all of whom are at their most playful here. It’s pretty refreshing to hear them rap like a crew from the ’90s* instead of just sounding like Rozay-carbon-copies over a Lex Luger-ish beat. Stream the track below. [RR]

*Which makes sense considering this is a Brand Nubian rework, more or less.
