According to the introductory text in Skillz's latest video, "This song is dedicated to all the regular guys." That's a pretty spot-on description of "Regular Guy" and its visuals, both of which seek to depict the blue-collar struggle of so many people (namely dudes) out there. As such, he spits lines like "From nine to five they got me talkin' proper/ I ain't doin' it 'cause I want to, shit, I'm doin' it 'cause I got to" amidst footage of guys playing bucket drums for money and selling Italian Ice. It would be a whole hell of a lot cornier in less capable hands, but Skillz's honesty is second to few. Also, it doesn't hurt that director Cristopher Schafer handles the track's vision with great care and sharp visuals.
Skillz's latest album, The World Needs More Skillz, is out now.
