Since 2002 hip-hop fans have come to expect Skillz's annual, year-end "Rap Up" summarizing the top hip-hop and current events from the past 12 months. The 2010 edition features international events like the earthquake in Haiti, the volcanic cloud and BP oil spill, while the hip-hop world receives some shine through Kelis and Nas's divorce, 50 Cent's weight loss and Lil Wayne's jail term.
As usual there are a number of notable couplets, including the couple bars dedicated to Erykah Badu's "Window Seat" video, Yung Berg's mugging and Wikileaks being called a form of "snitchin'." Tellingly there are relatively few specific mentions of music or songs: Sade's return, Rick Ross's "comeback," "Beamer, Benz and Bentley" and Nicki Minaj. Hence, Skillz's mid-song exasperation, "The industry sucks?"
The song can be heard streaming below via Different Kitchen. A clean version of the track is up on iTunes, or you can head to the dedicated site 2010Wrapup.com.
