Shugo Tokumaru's frenetic and joyous "Parachute" starts off his 2008 introduction to U.S. audiences, Exit, and the whole album gives you a strong impression of simple happiness from the Japanese songwriter. This video's crude animation by Chanson Sigeru and frenzied pace certainly match the track, but there's something unsettling about the crude stick figures jumping off of buildings and the moon that keeps crying and sinking a boat with its tears. Makes me wish I understood Japanese, I think.
I saw this guy at Pop Montreal in some small club and he was sick. He played with an acoustic guitar and just slayed. He's like all the beatles rolled into one, if they were from japan and were 50 years in the future. He'll be huge soon in the future, once people catch wind...
