Shugo Tokumaru: "Clocca" (Video)

· by

This clip for Shugo Tokumaru's "Clocca," directed by Masako Noda, fits the young musical guru's sound perfectly. Like Tokumaru's songs, the animated video pastes together disparate elements that loosely combine with off-kilter but brilliant results. From the "Paranoid Android" feel of the town at night and the shots of the mice and the artisan, to the jarring flatness of the bird clips, to the cog-by-cog assembly of the clock, the video makes jagged moves from ghostly to bittersweet and back again. And, most impressively, it manages to bring all these ill-fitting pieces together into a beautiful hole, without tying it all together too neatly.

Beautiful animation. I really enjoy Tokumaru's music.
