It’s a fine line between being nervous and drugged up to the eyeballs, and while speculation about Zooey Deschanel’s performance on David Letterman’s show continues, she shrugged it all off and appeared on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night (April 5). She joined forces with M. Ward once again to perform this version of “Thieves” from Volume 2.
Deschanel certainly has a rabbit-caught-in-the-headlights demeanor during this country-fied performance—but that’s probably due to being over-awed by the sudden and spectacular success of this project with Ward. Deschanel will doubtless return to acting at some point, but she proves here that a dedicated career in music is well within her grasp.
Vanity project or not, it certainly has merit.
I like her voice a lot
too much is made of this. she just has natural big...beautiful, hypnotizing, sexy eyes. oh and it can be frightening to perform live
Deschanel's voice has always needed practice. It's shaky and poorly metered. She's nervous, often out of tune and needs strong, confident singers to carry her mediocre ability (see that "Chiquitita" live cover with Becky Stark). It may be frightening to perform live, but that's no excuse if she persists on remaining in the spotlight. She's nice to look at, but June Carter and Loretta Lynn do it way better.

might be unfair to compare Zooey to those 2 women. i think a lot of performers look less lucid when performing on tv -or in general like my friends the Dehezas
