i like yourself am a 'minority', not black, but one none the less. Trust me when i say i know what hip hop is and what is isn't, and I couldn't agree more. But if you have such an issue with it all, get rid of your television. That's what I did. All the artists you stated I don't listen to. Not because they benefit from "stealing your black culture," but because of the lack of substance. So please don't come at people with your issues that every "white" 15 year old in country is exploiting your black heritage, when for all you know there is an African American producing those f******g records. I could also act like a kid and easily argue that BET, Randy Jackson, Lil mama, and Lil Wayne mark the downfall of music and literacy in this country, but no no no that would be racist or ignorant of me ....because it not my culture. Like everyone else, I have had black history month and MLK shoved down my throat ever god damn day in this country, but as a latino I learned to deal with it. Much like you need to learn that the worlds a little bigger than your grandmothers basement. Music is belongs to everyone, sorry fella its reality. And is it so unlikely that some of these "hipster" artists have inadvertently benefited from ignorant blacks claiming that hip hop was theirs and only theirs. I'm sure there are other online forums that cater to blacks, if thats ultimately what your looking for. But I personally believe that people learn from balanced discussion, would you say the same..... |

it's true that just about every global music fad of the last hundred years has originated in the american black community. that being said, a real artist is a treasure, and pop artists are dime-a-dozen cop-outs, regardless of their ethnicity. to say that this art has been "stolen" by white people is ridiculous. our cultures are blending, soon it won't be about black and white culture in america, it'll be about american culture. soul will still always come from the downtrodden. if the color of an artist's skin is what it's about for you, then you have no place accusing anyone else of racism. |
