Rick Ross has struggled with the authenticity question following the revelation that he was a prison guard and not the drug runner he presents himself as. Now comes his latest attempt at reclaiming his mantle as the don of coke rap, the video for "All I Really Want," which was filmed in Colombia. I'm pretty sure Pablo Escobar never wore a suit and danced wobbly, and then compared himself to a Green Bay Packer (none in particular). But still, "All I Really Want," which features The-Dream, is Ross's outright flirtation with a love song, and it immediately reminds me of the hits that Snoop Dogg had a few years ago that were of the same ilk. So maybe the Colombia thing is just a sad attempt to make the video into something it's not (it is).
Rick Ross's Deeper Than Rap is out now.
