The leaks keep on dripping from Reflection Eternal's upcoming sophomore LP, Revolutions Per Minute. And so far, they have mostly been solid tracks showing a fair amount of diversity, such as soul throwback flair, "Midnight Hour," and straightforward bars-packed rhyming, "Just Begun." But on "Ballad of the Black Gold," the duo hits a slight rough patch. While Talib Kweli's raps about drilling for oil in Africa are poignant and spot-on, Hi-Tek's militaristic drums fall flat and sound unfinished. The rest of his beat is strong enough, but the snares just aren't really cutting it.
Revolutions Per Minute is due out May 18. You can stream "Ballad of the Black Gold" below.
