The Roots’ upcoming record, Undun, marks the release of the Philadelphia hip-hop band’s first concept album. It also stands as their first collaboration with Sufjan Stevens, whose track “Redford” off Michigan actually served as the inspiration for the protagonist of the same name on Undun. He actually plays the first of four album-closing movments on the album, three of which you can hear right now at Stereogum. If you have ever wanted to hear a pure jazz-freak out/explosion by Roots drummer Questlove and a pianist, this is your chance. Shit’s wild. Undun drops Dec. 6.
