Prefix’s Jim Allen recently conducted an excellent interview with Kinks member Ray Davies, and the singer showed up on David Letterman’s show last night (Nov. 18) to perform a version of the classic “You Really Got Me.” Incredibly, the song was first released 45 years ago, in August 1964.
Letterman describes Davies as a “legend” and few would argue with that, least of all the people who populate the huge choir behind him on this performance. It’s testament to Davies’ talent as a musician that he’s still looking for new ways to perform songs that are many decades old, and anyone intrigued by this performance should check out The Kinks Choral Collection.
