Ray Davies: "'Till The End Of The Day" f. The 88 (Live On Fallon) (Video)

When Ray Davies appears on a TV show it’s pretty much guaranteed that everyone is hoping he’ll perform a classic Kinks number. Fortunately his latest album, See My Friends, is full of collaborative reworkings of his past glories, so it made perfect sense for him to knock out this version of “’Till the End of the Day” with the 88 on Jimmy Fallon’s show last night (July 24). There’s a hint of sadness about this, as the recorded version of this track on See My Friends features the last known studio work by Alex Chilton, but Davies and the 88 do it justice nevertheless. It’s a pretty faithful version of the song for the most part, which remains one of Davies’ best works—and let’s be grateful that he performed this and not his work with Mumford & Sons and Jon Bon Jovi from the same record.
