The latest indie rock-beloved act covering Buddy Holly is Julian Casablancas, who takes on “Rave On,” Buddy’s big breakout hit. Casablancas hews close to the original, the only change being the burpy synths from Phrazes for the Young that are on display here, providing the thrust of the “rave” that’s happening here. It’s not as good as Buddy’s, but it’s not going to replace the original.
Rave On Buddy Holly, the monster tribute album to Buddy, is due out on June 28. [Aux]
