Raphael Saadiq: "It's a Shame" (Spinners Cover)
Another week, another free download from the Levi's Pioneer Session, which features artists covering their favorite tracks from the past. Previously, we have heard acts ranging from the Kills to the Shins to John Legend & the Roots delivering takes on classic songs. This time around, it's soulman/bassist Raphael Saadiq's turn and he's covering the Spinners' "It's a Shame." He stays pretty close to the original, except for the fact Saadiq's vocals obviously have a different range and attitude compared to those delivered by the Spinners. Not sure which version I prefer, though after hearing Saadiq's falsetto, I kind of can't help favoring his take.
