We have been digging what we have heard so far from Raphael Saadiq's forthcoming Stone Rollin' album. He's again in throwback mode, though this time he's been influenced by doo-wop and other styles from the 1950s and '60s. And he showcases that sound especially on "Good Man," which here has been stripped down for an in-studio performance. It's just Saadiq, his bass, and a back-up guitarist and the setup allows for his vocals to become the focal point of the track. While the fleshed out instrumentation of the original is great, "Good Man" sounds just as great in this intimate setting.
Stone Rollin' is due out May 10.
