Raphael Saadiq recently sat down for a session at Daytrotter where he played select tracks from his latest album, The Way I See It, which was widely considered as one of 2008's best albums. The results from Daytrotter are still very much in the same vein of the classic Motown/Stax sound that Saadiq based his album on, but it is interesting to hear these songs step away from the intentional dusty production on the original recordings and being re-recorded with a crisp analog approach. Regardless of whether it sounds like it was recorded in 1958 or 2008, these new tracks still have the essence of Detroit and Memphis' history firmly engraved in its heart. Tracks from the sessions are streaming and available for download right now.
The Way I See It is currently available on Columbia Records. [Daytrotter]
