"15 Step" ft. USC Marching Band (Grammys 2009 - Video)

Average Rating: 7.50

As noted by Matthew Richardson on his Live Blog coverage of the 2009 Grammys, there's a certain amount of irony in having Gwenyth Paltrow, wife of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin, introduce Radiohead considering her hubby's band has been pegged as shameless Radiohead rip-offs since the jump.

But that concern dissipates quickly thanks to a USC Marching Band-boosted performance of In Rainbows' "15 Step" by a disheveled-looking Thom Yorke and company. I wasn't able to watch the telecast live (perhaps luckily, since Katy Perry was involved) but I can't imagine anything being better than this. If there's ever a band that it makes sense to put together with a drum line, and a song to do it to, it's Radiohead's "15 Step." The tubas, the percussion, and Yorke's crazed hyena-in-a-cage stage presence are perfect.

Goodness! I think having the marching band at his back really pumped up Mr. Yorke. He even wandered toward the crowd a bit. Odd that 3/5ths of the band appeared to sit this performance out, but I guess they weren't necessary.

This was the icing on the cake. I haven't seen a Grammy Awards show like this in a LONG time!
