The ever-delayed (and postponed) Q. Tip debuted two new tracks (presumably off his long-rumored The Renaissance LP) on Mark Ronson’s radio show recently. The former A Tribe Called Quest M.C. doesn’t truly let you enjoy the tracks, as he repeatedly buts in and starts talking over them, including once when talks about “fucking Sparks.” “Won’t Trade You” is the highlight here; its beat and sample sounds like Midnight Marauders crossed with a Kanye West track.
If these tracks are truly from The Renaissance, that has to mean Tip has at least three tracks done for the album (along with “Work It Out”), so maybe the album is close to being released. As Tip aficionados know, the Abstract hasn’t put out an album since 1999’s Amplified, and has already had an album turned down by his record company (2002’s Kamaal the Abstract).
