The Public Image Ltd. reunion, which is essentially just John Lydon and a bunch of guys who weren’t involved with the band during its “classic” era, is about to tour the United States, and gave us a taste of what to expect on Jimmy Kimmel’s show last night. The tour begins at Club Nokia in Los Angeles on April 13, just prior to the band’s show at Coachella.
Sadly, they opted not to perform something from Metal Box, which would have made this must-see late night TV. Instead, we got “Rise” from the 1986 record Album and a version of the ’83 single “This Is Not A Love Song," which has been woefully mis-titled by the Kimmel show on the YouTube clip below, and even seems to cut out before the end. But the latter is the highlight here, especially as that bone-stripping guitar sound remains intact and Lydon’s vocals are suitably acerbic—so perhaps this is a “reunion” worth checking out after all?
