“Sleeper” comes courtesy of Detroit outfit Prussia. A dark, funeral parlor ballad, the song slumps out of its coffin with a meandering organ and weary, angelic female backing vocals. Lead singer Ryan Spencer then takes the lead with a croon reminiscent of early Bowie's more evil moments. Half way through song reaches a death rattle with a parade of crunching guitar and rumbling drums before taking a brighter turn to close with the high-notes of a plucking piano.
Prussia has gained attention in their hometown and beyond for their memorable live shows, the large swath of various styles they incorporate and their intricate arrangements. Though the track “Sleeper” sounds as if these guys would be dressed in tight fitted black suits with bowties and black eyeliner, they keep it pretty straight, letting the music do most of the talking.
"Sleeper" can be found off a series of 10's the band will releasing over the next three months called Poor English. The first of installment is due out August 16th.
Prussia will also be joining tUnE-yArDs on a couple of tour dates later this month.
