"Crimson and Clover," off Prince's recently released LotusFlow3r, is being held up as proof that Prince has completely lost everything that made him great, because it's the only song on the album that is worth saving, and it's a cover of the Tommy James and the Shondelles original. Prince's version just got a psychedelic video, and while it does feature some nifty guitar god heroics from the Purple One, and a weird mash-up of "Wild Thing" near the middle, it's just kind of boring. It's a competent cover, to be sure, but this is from the guy behind Purple Rain, not some newbie with no ideas who's trying to make a name for himself.
LotusFlow3r, packaged with MPLSOUND, is out now at Target stores. [Culture Bully]

Not bad; but Tommy James & The Shondells' Crimson & Clover is hard to top!
