A Pennsylvania federal judge ruled that a woman can continue with her lawsuit against Universal Music Group after the record company forced YouTube to remove a video (above) of her baby dancing to Prince’s “Let’s Go Crazy.” The judge ruled that Universal has to consider whether or not the video fit under fair use laws (which allow portions of copyrighted material to be used in satire or in reviews).
Why Universal would force the video (which is clearly not meant for commercial purposes) to be taken down is a big question, but an even bigger one is why the woman, Stephanie Lenz of Gaitlin, PA, would fight so hard for her video to be on YouTube. Is she suing because her right to prevent people from working was infringed upon?
