Jamaican dancehall artist Popcaan and Mixpak Records just dropped a video for the track "The System" off Dre Skull's new Loudspeaker Riddim single featuring vocal offerings from Beenie Man, Natalie Storm, Machel Montano and Popcaan.
Wait? Who are these people?
Dre Skull is a NYC-based DJ who has turned into a sought after riddim-maker in Jamaica. So much so that Vybz Kartel, the most popular dancehall artist in Jamaica until his arrest last year, had Dre Skull produce his entire album, Kingston Story.
As for Popcaan, he is an up and coming dancehall vocalist who is trying to fill the void left in the wake of Kartel's arrest.
But let's let the music and visuals do the talking.
Directed by Dayo, the video features a particularly fly looking Popcaan rolling through a tough part of Kingston as he describes the trials and struggles that Jamaican youth face against the social and political system. The interesting, super-conscientious lyrical offering is also a facinating turn for Popcaan who until now has been known for more "feel-good" party offerings.
Also, Dre Skull and Mixpak are apparently planning on filming a video for every version of off the Loudspeaker Riddim so stay tuned in!
