PJ Harvey: "Let England Shake" (Live on the Andrew Marr Show) (Video)

PJ Harvey made an unusual comeback this weekend by appearing on a Sunday morning talk show named The Andrew Marr Show in the U.K. Harvey explains in an interview (below) that she has written most of her new album on an autoharp, and then goes on to play “Let England Shake.”

This sounds like Harvey getting back to what she does best after a decade or so of treading water—the song is performed over a looped vocal refrain, perhaps somewhat reminiscent of Animal Collective’s similar trick on “What Do I Want? Sky.” But the strangest aspect of this performance is the fact that British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, who is currently on the election trail, can be seen watching Harvey as she performs. Sadly, we don’t get to find out what he thought.

I'm sorry but "a decade or so of treading water!???
Polly ALWAYS makes records to surprise and feed your soul. Unlike most of the Mcdonalds generation who feed themselves on veneered slurry, this woman makes music to fill your heart with joy. You MUST listen to her tracks a few times to let them get under your skin but once they are there they remain forever. I look forward to every Polly release with the excitment of a schoolboy and i can't say that about ANY other artist around today. God bless everything she does.
