Phoenix were on Letterman last night to promote their great new album, Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix, performing the great "1901." You'd probably not realize it from their studio albums, but these cats are monsters live; they put on a great show, as evidenced here with the uncomfortable staring at the audience, the choreographed walking towards the drummer near the end and frontman Thomas Mars' flailing around like a preacher.

When I really love a song (like I do this one), I appreciate it when the live performance stays true to the album version. They did not disappoint! I actually suspected them of lip-syncing for a while, but towards the end you could tell it was live. Wow.
