Phantogram: "Mouthful of Diamonds" (Video)

· by

There is one fact about Phantogram that is totally unlikely: They are more or less a trip-hop band, which makes them the last one left, essentially. It's like they just got their hands on Portishead's first album a few weeks ago, and delivered tracks like "Mouthful of Diamonds," thinking that trip-hop is a totally current genre. It makes them unique, at least. In the video for the "Mouthful," the band engages in some weird sensual tension involving a pick, a house in the woods, some video effects and stuffed pheasants. Which is only half as weird as there being a brand new trip-hop band in 2010.

Does a band have to make music in keeping with "a totally current genre" in order to be worth listening to? Would it be better if they attached dream or memory to their name and made relevant chillwave?

Does anybody know what happened to an earlier music video of this song on youtube where it was a slowmotion video of a car crashing into a variety of objects?
