Pete Doherty is looking a lot better these days. Healthy, even. In the video for his first solo single, "Last Of The English Roses" Doherty plays soccer in a cement park, and dons a dapper suit and a floppy hat as he spits out the lyrics. Also, there's a red herring gay kiss at the end, which has set off a publicity storm in Europe, because apparently nobody recognizes that it's a shameless way to get publicity for the song.
"Last Of The English Roses," like the other songs on Doherty's solo debut, Grace/Wastelands, wraps Doherty's familiar voice in sparse, hardly there acoustic production. He's better over post-punk guitars.
Grace/Wastelands is due out on March 24 via Astralwerks/EMI.
