Pearl Jam's upcoming new album, Backspacer, is set to be released via a partnership with Target, which I think is apparent with the video for the first single, "The Fixer," which looks like a Target commercial. It actually is; it was shot for it to be chopped up into ad segments. The band's performance is pretty raucous, and they're more lively than they have been in years, but I don't know how they can explain away being staunchly anti-corporate while releasing an album through Target stores only. I suppose there has always been a partially empty center to that posturing; Pearl Jam, after all, were signed to a major label.
Backspacer is due out on Sept. 22. [Culture Bully]

You failed to mention that Pearl Jam also have a deal in place to sell the album through Independent Music Stores as well.
