In this trailer for the Steven Sebring's Patti Smith: Dream of Life documentary, set for September release, the punk godmother seems refreshingly unconcerned with her historical status, remarking that the term "icon" always makes her think of Mt. Rushmore. With her talk about sharing energy, and making a life journey -- not to mention the fact that it looks like she hasn't cut her hair since at least Radio Ethiopia -- Smith comes off as more of a hippie than a proto-punk, but the ideals of both those subcultures started out with some pretty similar ideals anyhow. Accordingly, the film looks to have an organic feel that's based more on shadowing Smith for some cinema verite than propping up the same old commentators to trot out tired anecdotes (though we can not at this time authoritatively deny the presence of Legs McNeil).

Soooo excited for this. Patti is amazing.
