The Shins’ comeback album, Port of Morrow, is out tomorrow, which means it’s time to listen to the non-album bonus track that seems to alway exist with big indie albums these days. It’s called “Pariah King,” and it features James Mercer working some vocal effects, changing his voice into a close approximation to the dudes in Styx. That’s not actually a bad thing, really: It gives the song a winsome edge, and it makes it substantially different than any Shins song from before this might have sounded like.
