The Parenthetical Girls have never been a band to take a straightforward path through the pop world. The band is currently in the middle of releasing its Privilege record, which is coming out as a series of five limited edition 12-inch singles on their own Slender Means Society label. The second release in the set is subtitled The Past, Imperfect, and features the lead track “The Common Touch,” which now bears the video above. Zac Pennington sounds in fine voice here, with his warbling vocals wrapped around a delicate backing full of glinting vibraphone and soft strings, with an explosion of drums at the mid-way point that leads to a more upbeat finale. Wonderfully pretentious stuff.
