Panda Bear: "Tomboy" and "Slow Motion"
The titular lead single from Panda Bear's upcoming Tomboy doesn't officially arrive until next Tuesday, but what do release dates mean anymore in this day and age? "Tomboy" is a droning dirge, packed with chugging, repetitious guitar and buried beneath a dense thicket of reverb. B-side "Slow Motion" goes for a similar aesthetic but affixes a more engaging tune to it. Both tracks hew closer to Animal Collective's recent work than the stately found sound collages of Panda Bear's 2007 opus Person Pitch. The "Tomboy" 7" is out 7/13 on Paw Tracks.
