In his take on Panda Bear's Tomboy, fellow Prefix writer Dan Nishimoto summed up my thoughts on the album with a concise, review-ending thought: "Tomboy’s best quality is its consistency with [Noah] Lennox’s vision, in spite of the critical hullabaloo surrounding it." Agreed. Even the album's best tracks, such as its last single "Alsatian Darn," aren't mind-blowing, incredibly moving pieces. But they are demonstrations of Lennox's increasingly varied approach to writing. The same can be said for the video for "Alsatian Darn," which comes across as a slightly predictable, though still appropriate, visual accompaniment.
Tomboy is out now.
